For the remaining lessons provide children with "the standard colors," which are red, yellow, blue (primary colors), orange, green, violet (secondary colors), brown, and black.

Instructors show children the lesson image and relate:

  • The lesson image represents a rug in five parts.
  • The middle part is called the center.
  • The outer stripes are borders.
  • The thinner stripes are called bands.
  • The very outside line is called the margin.

Instructors demonstrate to children how to create a rug:

  • Instructors place a margin around the tablet as shown in Lesson 30.
  • Instructors divide the rug into five parts and color as shown in the lesson image.

Children complete the following drill work:

  1. Black and Brown. Place a wash of black over the center and bands, and a wash of brown over the borders and center. Make the margins brown.
  2. Blue and Orange. Place a wash of orange over the center and bands, and a wash of blue over the borders and center. Margins, blue.
  3. Blue and Orange. Place a wash of orange over the whole, a wash of blue over the borders, and a heavier wash over the center. Make the margins blue.
  4. Red and Green. Place a wash of red over the center and bands, and a wash of green over the borders and center. Make the margins red.
  5. Red and Green. Place a wash of green over the center and bands and a wash of red over the center and borders. Make the margins red.
